Beasts of Bray Road?

November 4, 2010 by Linda Godfrey

UPDATE: As of July 8 2011 please note that I now have reason to doubt the complete truth of the information given me below so I am removing names but leaving the story for now – reader beware!

Bray Road is a popular place on Halloween, usually for little reason since the original sightings heyday. But this year, on Friday October 22, four of six 20-somethings cruising around 1:30 pm saw not one but two furry upright canines about 200 yards away in the middle of a muddy field. The group from the Union Grove area were headed toward the Hwy 11 end of Bray Road (the other end joins Hwy. N in Elkhorn) when the 22-year old driver of the Pontiac Grand Am and another passenger spied a tall, brown-furred creature vanishing into some brush to their right. The photo below was in this vicinity but taken earlier.

They turned in the nearest driveway and sped back. Twenty-two year old C. soon yelled at the driver to stop because he now saw the tall creature — and a companion — in the middle of a muddy field behind the brush. He and his friend, 24-year old A., saw them at the same time. The creatures walked on “three-jointed” doglike legs clearly silhouetted in the bright moonlight, and stood an estimated seven feet tall with long slender arms. When the car stopped so did the creatures, which turned their heads to reveal long canine muzzles and tall, pointed ears. One of them had eyes that glowed a faint yellow.

First one canine, then the other, dropped to all fours and ran off into the darkness. Two of the other passengers with C. and A. saw part of the incident, and the last two passengers missed the whole thing before they could scramble into good viewing positions.

I interviewed C.and A. by phone and also spoke with A. in person. They both remained consistent and convinced by what they saw.

Does this mean the Beast is back? It is hard to say whether this was a glimpse of habitation or just two creatures passing through. It is doubtful the alleged creatures were hoaxers since rain earlier that night had turned the fields very muddy, and humans would not be likely to navigate it as quickly as the creatures were observed to do, even if they were out in the field for some reason. Humans also would have been unlikely to have run away on all fours. I am still talking to the witnesses but so far they appear credible. (ed. note: not sure this is still the case)

In some cases, the creature probably isn’t a werewolf or it wouldn’t have the unpleasant smell that some have reported. Maybe it is some type of hybrid since wild animals are known to carry the offensive odor described by some of the witnesses.

Was not quite sure who to contact but came across this website. Was trying to find a reporting center or something for here in California. Well I saw something about three weekends ago in the Oroville area when heading home about 3:00 in the morning after working a security job in Chico. I know what I saw and finally told my coworkers about it two nights ago and had become a laughing stock. Well I was heading home to Marysville passing thru Oroville on hgiway 70 and being about a mile east from Ophir road. What I saw scared the crap out of me. I was the only one on the highway and I look to my right and saw standing on two legs a seven or eight foot tall wolf headed looking like man thing . It had light brown, grayish or whitish coloration in the fur. It looked at me and dropped down on all four of it’s legs and ran into the field. I slowed from 55 miles per hour down to 25 miles per hour to watch it. It ran thru the field and gave one last look in my direction. I then picked up acceleration and continued home while running thru my mind what I just had seen at the time. I looked on google map and noticed that there is a sizeable wildlife management area in the direction the thing had ran towards. I could say I am glad I dont live in Michigan or Wisconsin areas but now I dont feel like going to Oroville in California to do some late night catfishing ! I would be more than happy to elaborate more on what I just have revealed. Thank you for your time.

I haven’t listened to the Coast to Coast episode, but I scanned over your story.

What came to mind was Anubis and the Werewolf. This
reminds me of the stories of shape shift critters and people.

The mothman sitings are another weirdness, then there
    are the paranormal thingies, too.

    Very interesting.

If you could include a few more details about this sighting I’d love to hear them. Please go to http://www.beastofbrayroad.com and send a report from that link. Thanks!

    Ms. Godfrey,

I did my graduate degree & post graduate education at the University of Michigan (13+ years now)…

I have sincerely never blogged before EVER..I never felt compelled or truly vested enough in the subject matter to exchange my ideas eletronically. Well that changed for me when I heard your interview on Cost to Cost (very new listener).

I had a childhood experience in the forest, while camping, in Michigan , that has haunted my memory to date. I’ve not shared me experience with others, because of a strong sense of forbodance. I would like to tell you in a private email. I dont think I should post it.

Please contact me via email if you would like to hear about my expereince.

My parents saw a dog-man driving a car in the Barrington, Illinois area and did not tell anyone for years. They told me about two years ago, so that would make it about 7 years ago. Of course, they thought it might be someone in a costume.
My father is an atheist and still has these odd things happen to him (supernatural). His comment was that there would be no way that a person would be able to wear a costume like that because the snout would not fit. It is a mystery!
